Field Trip Information

The Cloisters, NYC, NY, 2018-02-25, 9:45 am

Rain Date: NA

Location: NYC, NY

Overview Description: The Cloisters, NYC, NY

Full Description: The Met Cloisters is a museum, specializing in European medieval architecture, sculpture and decorative arts, and is part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The museum contains approximately five thousand medieval works of art from the Mediterranean and Europe, mostly from the 12th to 15th centuries, and offers an extensive collection of statues, paintings, stained glass windows and tapestries. And we will have the chance to photograph the 4 cloisters, chapels and hallways, as well as all the works of art throughout our visit.

It is located on four acres overlooking the Hudson River in northern Manhattans Fort Tryon Park, deriving its name from the medieval cloisters that form the core of the building.

It opens at 10 am and closes at 4:45 pm during the month of February. So, we should aim to meet at the ticket counter no later than 9:45 am.

The ticket price you want to pay is up to you, but the suggested Admission price is $25 for adults and $17 for seniors (65 and over).

If you are driving: Take Henry Hudson Parkway northbound to the first exit after George Washington Bridge (Fort Tryon Park & The Cloisters). This exit is only accessible from the northbound lane

Parking: As visitors to The Met Cloisters we may use free city parking available in Fort Tryon Park. From the front entrance, there are approximately 60 stairs to reach the main level.

Water in plastic bottles may be brought into the Museum. Other food or drink is not allowed and may not be checked at the coat checks.

Flash photography and video cameras cannot be used inside the Museum.

All backpacks and packages must be checked in at the coat-check facilities. Oversize backpacks are not allowed in the Museum and cannot be checked in at the coat-check facilities.

Coats and small umbrellas may be carried into the galleries. Large umbrellas must be checked.

Please get in touch with the other members that are joining the field trip to organize for car pooling as appropriate.

We will aim to spend around 2 hours in the museum. So, we will be meeting back at the exit at 12 pm to go and have brunch together at the New Leaf Restaurant in the Fort Tryon Park within walking distance (10 min) to the Cloisters. I have booked the restaurant for 12:30 pm for our party.

I expect the field trip to end around 2 pm.
