Raritan Bayshore Photo Outing with Jacki Dickert, 2024-04-13, 3:00pm

Instructor - Jacki Dickert

Instructor Biography - New Jersey native Jacki Dickert grew up playing in the woods, climbing trees, and believing in the magic of the world. A child of a nature photographer, she informally studied the art her whole life. A trip to the visually stunning country of Iceland in 2006 inspired her to focus more seriously on photography, in order to present the wondrous beauty of the world for others to experience. This magnificence she finds in all wild places, from exotic locales to the little strip of woods near her own backyard. An ecstatic wanderer at heart, Jacki photographs with an openness to the present moment and a keen awareness of the world around her. Imagination is her friend. Her images have been showcased at galleries throughout New Jersey. Her work has been published on book covers and billboards, in textbooks, and in magazines like Backpacker and The Sun. Newark Liberty International Airport is currently featuring one of her photographs. In addition, Jacki selfpublishes the annual World of Wonder and a localthemed photography calendar.Recently retired from teaching elementary school, Ms. Dickert now teaches photography classes to children and adults. She is an active member of the Camera Naturalist Photo Club and a presenter and judge for the New Jersey Federation of Camera Clubs. In 2023, Jacki received the Citation Award from the NJFCC. Finally, she enjoys doing volunteer work for local environmental organizations and using her art and skills for conservation purposes.

Location - Keyport, NJ

Description - Join Jacki Dickert on Saturday, April 13 for an afternoon and evening along the Raritan Bayshore in Monmouth County, NJ. We will visit several locations, starting in the town of Keyport at 3 PM, photographing coastal scenes (sand dunes, waves, tide patterns, boats, fishing piers, birds, etc.) Low tide is at sunset, so we should get some great sand patterns. We will stay for the blue hour, during which we can make long exposures. Jacki will give pointers along the way and connect the experience with information shared in her recent Photographing at the Edge lecture. End time will be 8:30 or so.

Rain date is Sunday, April 14.

Note: there is a limit of 20 people for this workshop/outing based on earliest signups.

Bring:
Water and snacks for yourself
A variety of lenses (or all-in-one zoom) and tripod
ND filters if you want to make long exposures
Shoes that you dont mind getting a little muddy (optional for tidal flats)
Note: We will be walking on pavement, sand, and boardwalk up to 15 minutes from each parking area. It will more more of a meander
than a hike, while we photograph along the way.

If you would like to have a meal before or afterwards, Keyport is the place to eat!
Some suggestions:
Nemo (Great Asian food, in or outdoor options, w/water view)
McDonaughs Pub (classic pub, big menu, huge w/seating in or out.)
Keyport Fishery (for takeout/eat at the waterfront)
There are also places for pizza, vegan food, and ice creamEverything is close to free parking and the waterfront.
